When you need to lose a bit of weight really quickly it's tempting to opt for a detox diet or simply starve yourself. These options can have a negative impact on your health so I want to teach you how to lose 5lb in one week safely.
We've all heard the alarming the statistics of the amount of people that try and fail to accomplish their fitness goals each year. Successfully losing weight and keeping it off can be a real challenge for some as it is time consuming, sometimes unsafe to do on your own, and you have to break the unspoken bond you have with certain foods. Truth be told, it's actually not your fault...
You have most likely been doing everything right, you may just need to unfollow a few of these sleazy "fitness models" that give you unrealistic (and most of the time illegal**) diet advice without even getting to know you, just so they can fund their vacation to Bali!
First, Allow Me To Introduce Myself
My name is Ethan Halfhide, I'm a Certified Exercise Physiologist by the American College Of Sports Medicine. I have my Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Longwood University, and I am the owner of PanaceaFit.com.
My goal in life is to take the Obesity Epidemic head on by putting the power of a personal trainer in everyone’s pocket. I believe the first step to accomplishing this is to free ourselves of the overwhelming amount of manipulation in the exercise and diet industry so that we can stay focused on the things that will give us the life changing results we dream of.
A Sea Of Manipulation, Wave after Crashing Wave
One day you decided to follow Sally or Sam the fitness model in hopes that their shredded physique and motivational posts would get you into the gym. You thought they would be a source of guidance for safe workouts and sustainable weight loss dieting but sadly, they instead led you astray.
First, they tried to sell you thermogenic pills like Hydroxycut because they know if they tell you weight loss is as easy as taking a pill then you will be more inclined to give them your money! They know that when those pills run out and you're no lighter than you were before then they can up sell you on their new waist trainers that some fledging company gives them a 15% cut to sell, then it's the Keto diet and on and on. All under the promise of losing an unrealistic amount of weight in 15 days or less.
They capitalize on your desperation, using excitement to spur your attention, only to lead you astray. These offers lead you further and further away from your goals, blurring your vision of what was actually working for you. Now you're confused, you're lost, you're overwhelmed. You've given up.
Sidenote: Ever notice how a lot of these ridiculous weight loss product commercials are on early in the morning? They're trying to sell you when you're half asleep! At least then they think maybe you won't realize how bad their offer actually is.
Be Lost No More
I had an epiphany about a year ago when I began to look through my book of clients to identify trends. I noticed that almost every single one of them had fallen victim to these false promises and it often brought them to tears to even talk about it. They desperately wanted to make a healthy change but they were lead astray, much like you may have been at one point or another.
I realized that even if I created the best workouts, talked about how all calories aren't created equal, and explained exercise physiology principles until I turned blue in the face, none of that would matter if I couldn’t get people to stick with their programs.
I had clients that would sign up excited and ready to hit it hard. But a couple weeks later they would fall out of it. First it was that they felt sick, then their kid felt sick, then a meeting went long, then they had a sock drawer that needed to be rearranged, the excuses would amaze me!
If I did hear from them again they would begin asking about waist trainers, fat burn pills, keto and other overly restrictive fad diets. This would kill me.
I hit the books. I learned from the best. Whether it was Tony Robbins, Mel Robbins, Oprah, Steve Jobs or any other person who has achieved extraordinary results in life. They all preach THE SAME THING. Happiness = Progress, no matter how small. Both the problem and solution became clear to me.
The Origin Of The One Percent Challenge
Many people ask me about what I think the best mindset for weight loss is. To that I say that you need to drop your "all or nothing approach" because only a Sith deals in absolutes. You must adopt a mindset that is focused on sustainability, on gradual progress, so that you can still have fun and enjoy your favorite foods along the way.
Introducing The One Percent Better Challenge. Instead of me teaching you about this philosophy how about I tell you a story of the impact it had on one client in particular.
It is currently January 25th 2019. Exactly one year ago, I had a client come to me by the name of Sarah (name changed for confidentiality purposes). She wanted to lose a lot of weight, she had lost a few pounds here and there in the past but it had some how creeped its way back on. Sarah was also a type 2 diabetic and she wanted to reduce the complications of this condition as well. I told her that losing a lot of weight is possible but she shouldn't focus too much on the big goal as it can be overwhelming.
Instead, she should focus on the small behaviors she could do each day to get her one step closer to her goal each day. Focusing on the short term actions keeps people more motivated to accomplish their goal as it no longer seems so far away!
In 6 months time she had lost 45 lbs, she no longer walked with a limp, in fact she now walked with confidence! Not to mention she was still able to enjoy her Rolos and Red Lobster when she wanted.
On January 24th 2019 (the day before I decided to write this article) she weighed in below 200 lbs for the first time in years. She had lost a total of 79 lbs in one year training with me and it can be accredited to the One Percent Better Challenge. You don't need any expensive supplements, fad diets, fat burn pills, or waist trainers. All you need is proper guidance and a mindset adjustment to make sure you focus on the things that will keep you energized and inspired to get better day after day.
We focused on just a little bit of movement each day, nothing drastic or torturous. She kept her calories at about 1500 each day (a good balance for her) which on most days she accomplished. She didn't beat herself up when the scale didn't budge on some days and she didn't over celebrate on the days where she was impressed by her progress. It's all about balance baby!
